BACKGROUND: This documentary film offers a personal insight into the troubles of a Catholic community and their priest, who is sacked by the Vatican for unlawful practices. The film questions the credibility of the Catholic Church at the same time as putting the priest and his community under a spotlight that explores their strengths and vulnerabilities. Does the Catholic Church have a future? What does it mean to be a community in 21st century Australia? CONTRIBUTION: This documentary explores poignant, critical and relevant questions about the oldest living institution of our time - the Catholic Church. Its innovative approach is to raise these questions through the personal journey of a rebel priest who defied the Church and what it stands for. The filmmakers gained unprecedented access to key people to tell this powerful and intimate story. SIGNIFICANCE: The film has created various conversations and discourses among the public, having been broadcast on ABC's Compass in 2011 and since then released on DVD and shown at a number of Film Festivals. There was a nationwide tour of the film and its protagonist, Fr Peter Kennedy.
